2016/7 Borders League

Remember the club has paid for your entry so the 7 races are free, so join in!

With a few races being some distance away we plan to share cars, those willing to drive should be reimbursed petrol money by passengers.  Refreshments will be organised by Andy and Ian S, for the 3 races we travel to as the other 3 are on the Wirral and the last one we tend to stay if someone is getting a prize.

The remaining dates are:
22nd January – Deeside – Hilly
5th March – Wirral – New Brighton front
9th April – Helsby – we think the Norton Priory course
26th April – Wrexham – 4 mile with it being presentation night and at 19:15 start.

More details can be found on the Borders League website

We need 7 male and 3 female runners per race. Races are all on road type surfaces and are less that 10k. All races are a 11am start with the exception of the last one which is a presentation night. They are just like any other race: the whippets go off and we all follow trying to catch the orange vest up in front only for them to find some more energy and use it to go past you.

Birkenhead Park race report
Many thanks for all the support this morning in making the race a success for all attended and after staying until the committee left, nothing was raised with them and very happy with the location of water and facilities.

It was a cold one but the sun came out for us and the rest of the 300 plus field, we may be a small friendly club but we rally and look after each other.   Andy may not see that park until next year now as he has seen a lot of it today and during the last 6 months, but it was worth the effort and it is good to know it is appreciated.

With the race clashing with other events Santa Dash and Cross Country the mens team was reduced to 4 members.

127th Steve Spencer
218th Ian Davies
249th Andy Waring
261st Ian Sneddon

Thanks again to all members and families who helped today, with sickness it was handy having others turn up.

Caernarfon race report
Today saw the club take part the the Borders League first race of our 6th season within the competition.  On a still and chilly morning we left Thornton Road just after 8am and made the long journey to Caernarfon to tackle the longest course 10km of them all doing a reverse route from the last time we did it December 2015.  So it was 4.5km on the flat with Anglesey to the right and a lovely view then up/down/up to the finish passing the castle, still with no wind with the sun trying to get out.  Afterwards everyone enjoyed the refreshments supplied by Andy/Ian S before the interesting trip back….

72nd Steve Harrison
178th Ian Davies
203rd Colin Thomson
207th Andy Waring
233rd Ian Sneddon
243rd John Tregoning
284th Lyn Ebbrell

Thanks to Ian and Lyn for driving.
